Module summary
This module introduces practical and theoretical considerations related to arts fundraising and leadership. It explores the history of arts and cultural philanthropy; investigates underlying policy models and debates; situates arts fundraising within the broader fields of Arts Marketing and Management; explores the use of Strategic Management tools and principles for leading contemporary cultural organizations; and investigates findings from the Change Management, Cultural Entrepreneurship and Cultural Leadership literatures relevant to evolving the culture of arts fundraising.Objectives
The objectives of this module are to enable students to:• Develop a critical understanding of the emerging field of Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy using a range of theoretical and cultural policy frameworks;
• Understand and critique related theoretical concepts such as Arts Management, Arts Marketing, Cultural Leadership, Cultural Entrepreneurship and Change Management, and apply them to the field of Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy;
• Critically investigate contemporary Business and Arts Management theory and models and explore the challenges of applying this to the strategic development of twenty-first century arts organisations.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Contextualise the emerging field of Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy and situate it within and alongside relevant theoretical models and policy frameworks
2. Discuss and critique appropriate theories from Arts Management, Fundraising, Cultural Leadership, Cultural Entrepreneurship, Change Management and Resilience, and apply them to the field of Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy
3. Identify and articulate the challenges faced by contemporary arts leaders and critically explore the artistic, social, business and policy drivers which contextualise arts organizations’ mission development and delivery.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
4. Analysis of fundraising practice and the strategic context within the student’s own primary workplace.
5. Critical assessment of contemporary issues affecting cultural sector fundraising.
6. Delivering an effective and engaging oral/visual presentation.
7. Writing academically in a focused and structured manner, evidencing critical thinking.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Students’ progress will be monitored formatively through in-class discussion in seminars and by regular question and answer sessions following lectures and seminars. Further formative feedback will be given during tutorials. Summative assessment will comprise the individual presentations and an individual essay.Methods of assessment
