Module summary
The module will examine the nature of transitions (and attempted transitions) to more open political systems in the Asia-Pacific region. Case studies used may include: Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. We will investigate academic literature relating to political transitions, democratisation, and the emergence of civil societies. This will include both generic and area-specific literature.Objectives
On completion of this module students should be able to:- apply a comparative perspective to processes of political change in the Asia-Pacific region;
- gather and analyse political data, and write and present political arguments;
- demonstrate a richer insight into different political cultures, and an enhanced awareness of the political importance of the Pacific Asia.
