Module summary
With the support of a supervisor, students will write a dissertation of 18-20,000 words on a theme of their choosing. The dissertation theme will require the approval of the Programme Leader.Objectives
The aim of this module is to provide students with the opportunity to pursue in depth a topic within the field of Philosophy of Religion and/or Ethics, chosen by then in consultation with the supervisor, and to engage in independent but supported research.Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
• Produce an independent and critical piece of work on a selected topic within the field of Philosophy of Religion and/or Ethics;
• Show a good grasp of the chosen topic and relevant important literature;
• Display the ability to formulate a rigorous and independent extended argument.
Skills outcomes
The module will develop skills in independent research in Philosophy of Religion and/or Ethics. Some skills will depend upon the student’s choice of topic.

The syllabus will vary with the topic of the dissertation, and be decided in consultation with the supervisor.

Dissertation drafting: 150 hours.
Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Regular meetings with the supervisor. Also meetings with the personal tutor. Students will be encouraged to submit a draft of the dissertation not later than two months in advance of final submission, on which detailed feedback will be given.Methods of assessment
