Module summary
The module takes a practical approach to quantitative research methods and its application to social research. In this module, students develop their understanding of quantitative research design, the methodologies and methods used in quantitative social research and the issues related to this. In addition, students learn the skills needed to develop their own quantitative research ideas and to analsye their own quantitative data.Objectives
The module will:• Develop an understanding of the main quantitative research designs, methodologies and methods used in quantitative social research
• Develop and awareness of the issues arising in quantitative social research
• Support students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to develop their own quantitative research ideas and to analyse their own quantitative data
• Develop skills to critically analyse research methodology
Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students will be able to
1. Understand key methodological approaches to quantitative social research
2. Demonstrate an understanding of quantitative research strategy, design and analysis
3. Apply knowledge of a range of quantitative approaches and methods
4. Demonstrate an awareness of issues arising from quantitative social research
5. Critically analyse quantitative research methodology
6. Apply skills in data analysis
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Develop and apply critical thinking skills in the context of quantitative research
2. Independently undertake information searching and evaluation of evidence
3. Practice academic integrity in independent research and assessments
4. Evaluate and apply key social research methodologies and methods

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
