None Although it serves to provide an alternative to BMSC 1210 specifically engineered to meet the requirements of students registered on sports science programmes.This module is not approved as a discovery module
Objectives
To understand the basic workings of the nervous system starting with peripheral nerve function and moving to the organisation of the central nervous system.To understand how simple reflexes and more complex motor behaviours occur and are controlled at the neurological level.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students should be able to;
- Explain how a nerve operates;
- Define and recognise the key anatomical features and physiological distinctions of the peripheral and central nervous system;
- Describe the function of different sensory afferents and how they in turn can inform, trigger and modulate efferent activity;
- Describe simple motor reflexes and the initiation of more complex movements.
Skills outcomes
To be able to synthesise information combining simple elements to complex outcomes requiring analytical skills, creative and critical thinking, independent study and organisation. Application of knowledge to answer questions.
Syllabus
- Basic structure of nerves.
