Module summary

The module re-appraises freight transport and supply chain logistics using the latest thinking and research findings, in order to identify and evaluate possibilities to improve sustainability and reduce environmental impact.

Objectives

The module is designed to help students who aspire to work in planning, policymaking and consultancy roles in which they will need up-to-date understanding of best practice in reducing the environmental problems associated with freight logistics and supply chain activities.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

LO1 Students will develop a good understanding of how supply chains currently operate, at both global and local scales
LO2 Students will develop an understanding of the environmental and societal problems associated with current supply chain practices at both global and local scales
LO3 Students will develop skills in the evaluation of innovative approaches and strategies for improving supply chains now and in the future

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Regular online tests (e.g. with multiple choice questions) will be provided during the delivery of the module to allow students to test their understanding and to obtain formative feedback on this.

Two seminars will be held ahead of the coursework submission date to reinforce learning and provide opportunities for guidance as students develop their answers.
