Are you interested in enhancing your writing style? The aim of the module is to provide training in text appreciation through the analysis of genres of writing with special attention to the various stylistic devices and terminology.Pre requisites: ARAB 2010 or equivalent. To provide training in text appreciation through the analysis of genres of writing with special attention to the various stylistic devices and terminology.Syllabus
Introduction - Definitions of style and stylistic terminology; characteristics of Arabic style including levels of style, the influence of classical Arabic and the problem of diglossia. Text Analysis - A selection of various 'representative' texts including messages, private and official correspondence, the report, the short essay, children's literature, the short story, the novel, the poem and literature in translation.
