Objectives
By the end of this module, students should have a basic understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the main endocrine systems, together with how pathology and pharmacology can alter their function.Learning outcomes
By the end of this module, students will be able to describe, the components of the major endocrine signalling systems and understand the choreography of these systems in health & disease, at a basic level.
Syllabus
The endocrine pancreas & diabetes; the thyroid; the parathyroids and calcium and phosphate homeostasis; the adrenal gland and its disorders; neuroendocrinology of the hypothalamus; physiology and pharmacology of sexual differentiation and reproduction.

Private study
Independent learning: Students will complete workbooks (2-3 hours each) based on each substantive area of the module. Completion of the workbooks will be based on lectures, online material, and private reading. Resources from the "Interactive Physiology" and "PhysioEx" series will be used to consolidate and extend lecture material.Private study: students will be expected to spend ~3 hours reading per lecture. Understanding of core material will be checked by online formative tests, for which feedback will automatically be provided.
Independent online learning: 55 hours
Private study: 29 hours
Opportunities for Formative Feedback
On-line formative tests will ensure satisfactory progress throughout the module. Module manager and lecturers will be notified of students failing such assessments, so that additional support can be provided. Conditional release of support material, based on completion of each test, will ensure student involvement.Summative MCQ in course.
