Module summary

During this module students will engage with education for sustainable development to create solutions to a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal relevant to their discipline. This may involve collaborating with students from other countries, disciplines and cultures. During this module students will have the opportunity to integrate and apply learning from other modules to benefit society and develop their global cultural awareness.

Objectives

This module aims to develop student competence and literacy in the transferable skills essential to succeeding in their studies and becoming effective, workready graduates.
These skills will be developed through disciplinary and interdisciplinary team-based projects related to sustainable development and human sciences research.
These objectives are achieved through a process where the skills are identified and developed in a workshop, practiced and applied in a facilitated team-working environment, and assessed through the outputs from the team-based project. The students are encouraged to reflect on these skills in their outputs. These sessions will also encourage application of programme-specific knowledge from other modules.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will be able to:
1. Propose evidence-based, entrepreneurial and forward-thinking solutions to a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal(s) or grand challenge related to their discipline using a design thinking approach

On successful completion of the module students will be able to:
1.Critique and reflect on their own and others work
2.Demonstrate ethical awareness and behaviours
3. Manage time and projects, prioritise work efficiently and productively, being able to juggle conflicting priorities in order to meet deadlines
4. Search for, identify, evaluate and use information from different sources from governmental to scientific to form ideas and communicate these effectively through written, verbal and other approaches
5. Collaborate through defined roles in team working situations in disciplinary, interdisciplinary and transnational contexts, involving leadership and decision making

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Throughout their team-based projects, students’ progress will be monitored in sessions by academics who will give feedback on their overall project progress, as well as the skills being developed and utilised in the projects, including but not limited to oral and written communication, team dynamics, literature searching and critical reading, and digital literacy skills. Other specific feedback will be offered on job application and mock interviews, their personal growth statements and their showcase applications.

Coursework

Portfolio	The team e-portfolio will demonstrate how the team has met the learning objectives and the progression of their project. Each team member will have an individual tab of the portfolio to demonstrate their contributions and skill development through the module.	40.00
Presentation	The showcase will be an opportunity for the teams to display their projects and recommendations. They will be given a selection of formats, such as elevator pitch, workshop activity or presentation and the team will select 2 of these to complete for the showcase. Moderated with BuddyCheck.	30.00
Essay	A written reflective piece of work where the student will reflect on their teamworking, experience through the module and change to their mindset to demonstrate personal and skill growth.	30.00

Team e-portfolios will have an appropriate alternative resit format for example, where the student may work on a smaller independent project and/or completes an independent portfolio. If the student is unable to take part in the showcase event, they may be offered the opportunity to create a portfolio as an alternative assessment.
