Module summary

To introduce students to a range of research topics in the broad field of pharmacology, and develop their ability to collate, critically analyse, and describe scientific information.

To introduce students to a range of research topics in the broad field of pharmacology, and develop their ability to collate, critically analyse, and describe scientific information.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to:
- have a knowledge of current research in a range of topics in the biomedical sciences chosen from the list of topics presented, and with reference to their programme specialisms, subject interests and career intentions.


Syllabus

The module will consist of a number of "advanced topic units", each of which will contain a series of lectures ± other teaching sessions relating to a particular research topic within the field of biomedical sciences. Students will attend, and do additional reading on, at least 5 of these ATUs.

Private study

Reading lists will be provided in association with each lecture as a starting point for self-directed learning around the material in each ATU. An average of 5 hours additional reading/revision is allocated to each lecture.

Independent online learning: 10 hours

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Student attendance at lectures will be monitored in line with standard faculty practice. At level 3, and in light of the extensive reading around the topics that is required, continuous assessment will not be appropriate for most ATUs.

This module is mutually exclusive with other Advanced topics modules in this semester within the faculty of Biological sciences.
