Module summary
.Objectives
To introduce students to a range of research topics in the broad field of medical sciences, and develop their ability to collate, critically analyse, and describe scientific information.Learning outcomes
Students should become familiar with current research in a range of topical areas within the field of biomedical sciences.
Syllabus
The module will consist of a number of "advanced topic units", each of which will contain a series of lectures +/- other teaching sessions relating to a particular research topic within the field of biomedical sciences. Students will attend, and do additional reading on, at least 5 of these ATUs.

Reading lists will be provided in association with each lecture as a starting point for self-directed learning around the material in each ATU. An average of 5 hours additional reading/revision is allocated to each lecture.Independent online learning: 10 hours
Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Student attendance at lectures will be monitored in line with standard faculty practice. At level 3, and in light of the extensive reading around the topics that is required, continuous assessment will not be appropriate for most ATUs.This module is mutually exclusive with other Advanced topics modules in this semester within the faculty of Biological sciences.
