Module summary
This elective level 2 module will support students in the development of their Commercial Awareness through an exploration of skills and concepts that will equip them to prepare to start a business and/or to demonstrate their Commercial Awareness to a potential employer.Objectives
On completion of this modules students should have:- gained an understanding about the skills that underpin entrepreneurship and commercial awareness;
- developed knowledge of the key factors to be addressed when starting up and running a business;
- gained an understanding of the purpose of and critical success factors in the development and presentation of a business plan;
- analysed and reflected on individual entrepreneurship skills;
- developed an action plan for personal development to increase Commercial Awareness that can be applied in a range of settings from business start-up to graduate employment.

- How is Commercial Awareness defined by key graduate recruiters
- What is entrepreneurship
- What are the skills required to be an effective entrepreneur? (How) do they compare to those required to demonstrate
- Commercial Awareness
- Networking who can support you.
- Market research why and how.
- Marketing with particular emphasis on branding
- Finance how to get it and manage it
- Constructing a Business Plan
- Presenting a Business Pitch
- Action planning with smart goals.
The syllabus will be supported by the development of a theoretical business idea (a group project). This will be used as a model to explore many of the concepts introduced (as listed above). In addition there will be an underpinning theme of review and reflection on individual skills and motivations
