Module summary

The module will involve reading and discussing Thai newspaper and magazine articles. It will also involve extensive conversation, comprehension and composition exercise.The module will be delivered principally in Thai.

Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Communicate fluently and effectively, both orally and in written form, in the Thai language;
- Read Thai language newspapers;
- Engage in conversations and discussions, in Thai, on a variety of topics;
- Understand complex structures of the Thai language;
- Demonstrate receptive and productive language skills in a variety of contexts;
- Demonstrate an insightful awareness and understanding of Thai social, cultural, political and developmental situations;
- Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of Thai culture and society;
- Communicate information and arguments in a variety of spoken and written forms;
- Draw clear connections between linguistic competence and insightful understanding of the Thai context.

Learning outcomes
To write Thai fluently and accurately in all language tasks and, in translation between English and Thai, to use both languages accurately, with correct spelling and grammar.

Syllabus

The module will be delivered principally in Thai. It will involve reading and discussing Thai newspaper and magazine articles. It will also involve extensive conversation, comprehension and composition exercises. The vocabulary of most classes will focus on Thai society, culture and history.

Students will also start to develop skills of translation from and into Thai.
