- A minimum of two years relevant postgraduate professional experience.
- Have basic ICT skills (to be able to use email, word processors and the WWW) and to be able to use computers routinely in their academic work.
- To demonstrate independent facility in the use of ICT with appropriate technical support.

Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to:

- systematically design and critically evaluate a web-based learning environment in a topic of their choice;
- analyse and apply principles and practices associated with web-based learning;
- use an appropriate range of skills related to web technology and learning.

Syllabus

In this module participants will consider the theoretical and practical issues associated with creating and using web-based learning environments. The emphasis of the module will be on principles of design and evaluation, which will be illustrated through the reproduction of a working environment. Support in the use of a specific web-editor will be provided through workshops during the module.

The range of issues covered in the module include:
- hypermedia and learning;
- scenario-based design and evaluation of web-based learning environments;
- pedagogical principles and practices associated with web-based learning;
- a range of skills related to web-based technology.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Each participant will be expected to make a contribution of between 500-1,000 words per Session, about a specific issue in the asynchronous discussion.

Each person will be expected to contribute to the synchronous seminar.
