Module summary
This module will examine the basic 'levels' of language: the lexical and semantic; the phonetic and phonological; the grammatical; the level beyond the sentence.The module is thus concerned with the shape of words and meaning; how they sound; how they connect with each other in both writing and speech and also beyond the sentence.Objectives
On completion of this module students should have acquired a knowledge both of the basic levels of language and also of the core concepts and terminology relevant to these levels.They should be able to demonstrate a practical understanding of how the English language works in actual use.
