Module summary
This module is for students who already have a grade A or B at AS/A2 level or equivalent, have a background in Medicine/Dentistry/ Healthcare and wish to develop their proficiency in Spanish in a medical context. It is intended for students who have an interest in studying/working in a Spanish-speaking country. The emphasis is on achieving a high level of communication in speaking, listening, reading and writing. The module includes a research project providing the opportunity to research an area related to medicine/dentistry/health in a Spanish-speaking country and present the findings both verbally and in writing. Developing cultural awareness and intercultural communication skills is an important aspect of this module.Objectives
To develop the skills and competence of students of Medicine/ Dentistry/Healthcare beyond AS/A2 level. On completion of the module, students should be able to use their clinical skills in a medical setting in a Spanish-speaking country with a high degree of fluency and accuracy. They should be able to research topics, extract, analyse, interpret and evaluate information from a range of appropriate sources for the purpose of presenting this in Spanish in spoken and written form. This module develops the core programme threads of internationalisation and employability and helps students develop global citizenship skills.Learning outcomes
On completing this module students would be expected to have become familiar with a medical environment in the target culture and to have an understanding of the culture and society. They should be able to interact effectively in Spanish according to the cultural context. They should have increased their knowledge of, and ability to use, the language accurately and with confidence.

Weekly private study both guided and independent using a variety or resources; to include a combination of self, peer and tutor-marked workOpportunities for Formative Feedback
1. Participation in class2. Regular formative tasks, both self-marked and tutor-marked so that the students get formative feedback and the tutor can gauge progress at regular intervals.
3. Students will be required to submit at least one draft of their presentation and their report for detailed tutor feedback.
