Module summary
A 'light' post-GCSE level course which encourages communication in the target language. The study of grammatical structures and cultural awareness is incorporated into the language programme. Self-study in the Self-Access Area is integrated into the monitoring and assessment. The specific load of individual study work for students will be defined in the Scheme of Work for the course.Objectives
The aim of this module is to consolidate knowledge of French at elementary level and develop skills and competence beyond CEFR A2 level.Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- show an understanding of commonly used instructions and commands;
- extract information from audio and video materials;
- handle short conversations in a familiar context;
- be easily understood by a sympathetic native speaker;
- read short and simple authentic texts from their field of study;
- produce limited short pieces of independent writing;
- demonstrate their knowledge of key areas of grammar;
- demonstrate awareness of cultural and linguistic differences between the use of English and French.
Syllabus
Topics/skills covered at this level include:
- dealing with more everyday formal and informal work situations;
- giving and asking for instructions, and opinions;
- giving a prepared presentation;
- explaining ideas and information;
- developing strategies for extracting and adapting information from authentic texts related to the student's field of study.
