Module summary

Lower intermediate Italian is for students who have already studied Italian for about 2 years/about 90 hours and have reached GCSE, CEFR A2 or equivalent. The emphasis is on achieving a good level of communication and accuracy in speaking, listening, reading and writing and a deeper understanding of Italian culture. You will develop your presentation skills, your research skills using resources in Italian and your reporting skills.

Objectives

To consolidate knowledge of Italian at elementary level and develop skills and competence towards CEFR A2 level. On completion of the module students should be able to identify main points and opinions in a familiar context, reporting these with accuracy, and hold longer conversations in Italian, exchanging ideas and opinions on a range of topics.

Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students should be able to:
- Make themselves understood by a proficient/or competent language speaker over a range of everyday topics
- Read texts and listen to audio of a reasonable length
- Understand the main points of clear, standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in daily life, in work and at university and be able to understand the main points of audio-visual material when the delivery is at a reasonable pace
- Describe experiences and impressions orally and in writing
- Demonstrate greater understanding of key grammar points with appropriate usage
- Demonstrate awareness of cultural and linguistic differences between Italy and other countries learners
