Objectives
On completion of this module students should be able to:1. Articulate personal learning needs in relation to a defined area of professional practice.
2. Organise a programme of self-directed learning.
3. Critically analyse a relevant body of literature.
4. Produce an analytical and reflective account of knowledge gained through independent study.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will have:
1. Extended their knowledge in a defined area of professional practice.
2. Gained new insights into the process of knowledge acquisition through independent study.
Syllabus
To participate in this module, students are expected to have engaged with relevant professional or managerial learning through a series of structured learning events.
The intention of the module is to enable students to receive formal recognition of the learning gained when attending structured learning events. The structured learning events must have a coherency from the student's perspective. The structured learning events could, for example, be offered and delivered by the School or be organised and offered by NHS Trust Hospitals or professional bodies.
The group tutorial will establish the processes for the student to achieve the learning outcomes.

Private Study: Preparation for student's selected structured learning events supported by reading resources.Independent learning: Developing the learning contract. Designing and fulfilling structured learning events to meet the objectives in the Learning contract.
Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Student progress will be monitored by submission of a learning contract identifying the student's selected overall theme or subject for their learning, a plan for the structured learning events along with learning objectives for each event.
