Pre-requisite qualifications

Successful completion of ITAL1030 Beginners Italian (A1 of the CEFR).

- Students wanting to take this module as a Discovery module need to get the permission of the Programme Manager for Italian before enrolling onto the module. Approval will be based on prior knowledge of Italian and any LANG Italian modules which may have been previously taken.

Module summary

This module aims to take students rapidly from about A1-level to about A2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Language classes will help develop a degree of accuracy, language competence and confidence in Italian at that level. The module will also offer opportunities to further stimulate students' interest in the cultures where Italian is spoken as well as an awareness of the main linguistic differences between Italian and English.

Objectives

This module aims to:

- Consolidate students’ language skills and competences in Italian up to about CEFR A2+ level.

- Allow students to use Italian in a variety of contexts at about CEFR Level A2+ in Italian.

- Provide students with a range of opportunities to learn about the cultures where Italian is spoken.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

1. Have a more in-depth grounding in the principal constructions of Italian grammar and key Italian vocabulary in the topics covered.

2. Be able to extract an increased amount of key information from written, audio and visual material in Italian.

3. Be able to understand and use written and spoken Italian with some competence in a variety of contexts up to CEFR Level A2+.

4. Interact in Italian, in a simple way, with correct pronunciation and fluidity.

5. Demonstrate an awareness of cultural and linguistic differences between Italian and English.
