Module summary
This module seeks to explore English law and its institutions in challenging and relevant ways. We shall examine the institutions of English law, the processes by which it is made and certain selected areas of the law itself. We shall evaluate the impact on the institutions, on the processes and on the content of English law of the UK's membership of the EU and of the giving of further effect in English law to the European Convention on Human Rights under the Human Rights Act 1998.- This module is taught by lectures, seminars and practicals in semesters 1 and 2. - Assessment is by two 3,000 word essays.Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to:- explain the notion of English law
- evaluate it, its processes and its institutions in terms of relevant jurisprudential criteria
- analyse and discuss simple legal problems.
Syllabus
