Module summary

On completion of this module students should be able to: - appreciate the value of quantitative approach to solving a wide range of business problems- recognise limitations of a quantitative approach- understand and apply basic statistical concepts within business situations- benefit from modules of their degree programme that require possession of quantitative skills and knowledge.The module allows students to consider foundation statistics for management and business programmes comprising: - descriptive statistics- frequency distributions and histograms- averages and measures of dispersion- regression and correlation- ANOVA- the nature of probability and probability distributions- sampling theory, estimation and confidence intervals- hypothesis testing.

Objectives

On completion of this module students should be able to:

Syllabus

Foundation statistics for management and business programmes comprising:
- descriptive statistics
- frequency distributions and histograms
- averages and measures of dispersion
- regression and correlation
- ANOVA
- the nature of probability and probability distributions
- sampling theory, estimation and confidence intervals
- hypothesis testing.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

- Students will be given a mid-term test which will cover the part of the stats material taken up to that time in the module.
