Module summary

This module aims to provide an introduction to the key concepts relating to people's behaviour within organisations. It will consider individual behaviour, small group processes and wide-scale organisational systems, predominantly taking a psychological perspective but drawing on other disciplinary approaches where applicable.

Objectives

This module aims to provide an introduction to the integrated study of the key concepts and underlying theories relating to aspects of behaviour of people within organisations. The module also aims to explain the relevance of such theories for practising managers.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- interpret and explain the concept of organisational behaviour;
- identify, explain and critique different theoretical accounts of this concept, together with different methodological approaches to its study;
- evaluate the limitations of these theoretical and methodological approaches

Skills outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- identify, explain and critique the practical implications and usefulness of such theoretical accounts to today's managers


Syllabus

The module will begin by looking at topics that relate to the individual within the organisation, followed by small groups, and finally the organisation as a whole system.

- Organisational performance and development
- Organisational structure and design
- Organisational culture and change

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
