Objectives
This module aims to provide students with a foundation in the theory and practice of international business to understand strategies of multinational enterprises in foreign countries.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students will be able to critically evaluate:
- Current trends in International Business
- Strategic decisions in multinational enterprises
- Multiple business cultures
- The implications of the emergence of new large players in the world economy and their impact on business strategy
- Theoretical explanations and frameworks of international business in an integrated manner
- Dynamics and constraints of managing internationally
- Individual international market opportunities
- Evidence on business strategy and its impact

Syllabus
Indicative content:
Internationalisation frameworks,; the multinational firm and the international firm; foreign market servicing strategies: exporting, licensing agreements, foreign direct investment, joint ventures and wholly-owned subsidiaries, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances; the role of institutions and network in internationalisation; the external environment and the multinational firm; regional economic integration, trading blocs and impact on firm strategies; the Triad and newly developed countries of Asia; Outward FDI from emerging economies; the global factory, globalization and the role of transnational corporations: characteristics and indicators and debates of globalization; the role transnational corporations in the process of globalization; Impact of multinational firms on home and host-country environments.
