Objectives
The module provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge of the main methods used in studies of Human Resource Management together with a broad understanding of research methods in the social sciences.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Recognise different perspectives on the philosophy of social science
- Prepare to undertake methodologically sound research projects and to produce a high quality independent piece of research on an HR issue
- Evaluate the appropriateness of different research strategies
- Identify the uses, strengths and weaknesses of a range of research strategies and techniques, including case study analysis, participant observation, interviews, secondary data, surveys, questionnaire design and comparative research
- Carry out qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- Critically evaluate existing research in Human Resource Management

Upon completion of this module students will be able to:

Syllabus
Indicative content
The module introduces students to research methods and techniques by studying topics such as philosophy and research methods, research design, in depth interview techniques and participant observation, qualitative and quantitative analysis, secondary data, survey research, questionnaire design, ethics and comparative research.
