Objectives

This aim of this module is to equip students with a thorough understanding of advanced research designs and techniques, together with a good grounding in analysis. To enable students to be able to research behaviour in organizations.

The module aims to use online learning, interactive discussions, practical exercises and assessments to support students in enhancing their ability to select appropriate research designs, methods and analytical tools to test competing ideas, theories and interventions in a wide range of contexts.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Critically assess the efficacy of a range of research designs and approaches for investigating differing research problems
- Accurately apply a range of advanced analytical techniques
- Accurately interpret and write up the results from applying different analytical techniques

Skills outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Learn how to best formulate different research questions
- Select appropriate option(s) of research methods to answer different research questions
- Conduct analytical research techniques
- To be able to better read and understand results sections in academic papers to help with cross-module learning
- Report research results in a clear and consistent way

Syllabus

Indicative content includes techniques which examine differences between groups on organisational behaviour phenomena, and other which explore relationships between different organisational behaviour phenomena, as well as consideration of research design.

Practical tutorials in analysis and other research techniques will be integrated with the theoretical teaching to reinforce learning and to support application in the Dissertation project. The module contributes to stage 1 of the QOccPsych.

This could include a variety of activities, such as reading, watching videos, question practice and exam preparation.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will be given the opportunity to check their learning through completing quizzes (both in class and during independent study). Students are able to check their learning through completing workbooks on each topic and can ask for feedback during designated workbook sessions. Students can get feedback by using the Discussion forum on Minerva. Students are able to check their ability to correctly complete SPSS practicals as answers are shown within the sessions and answer sheets are released to students afterwards as well.
