Module summary

This module will engage students in group-based project work. Project titles will be drawn from a range of commercial, industrial, educational or academic (research) projects, to reflect a range of career options that are available to mathematicians. The mathematical content will be appropriate for a Level 2 module.Students will evaluate and develop their professional skills through engaging in a group project, culminating in a written mathematical report, an oral presentation and some other item which will depend on the nature of the project, such as a report for a client, a piece of software, webpage, etc. All students will be expected to make equivalent contributions to the group effort, and the students will also be evaluated on their ability to work as a team.Students will also undertake a skills audit at the start of the module, prepare a CV, research a company for a mock interview, and participate in an interview workshop. By the end of the module, students will be able to appraise their own skills and make an action plan to prepare them for future employment.
