This module is not approved as an Elective
Objectives
This module is designed to provide students with experience in producing medium-length translation of a professional standard from one or two languages into English; it is also intended to increase participants' awareness of what the translation process involves.Syllabus
Students will be expected to produce two translations of significant length, each with a commentary. The specific texts to be translated will be chosen by the individual student, although subject to the agreement of his or her supervisor and the programme directors. The two translations should relate to different subject fields (although these may fall within a single text-type); for students offering two foreign languages one translation should normally be from language I into English and the other from language II into English. Students who are doing any module involving translation out of English (e.g. MODL5111M, MODL5112M or MODL5116M) may elect to do one translation out of English in place of one of these translations. In exceptional circumstances, other students may also do one of their extended translations out of English, subject to the approval of the programme directors.
