Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to:1. Use a variety of sketching and visualisation tools and materials such as pencils, marker pens, paper types.
2. Appropriately apply perspective, shading and line drawing techniques in sketches and drawings to communicate form.
3. Apply theories of graphical communication and design to determine the most appropriate visualization techniques to use in particular circumstances.
4. Visualise ideas and concepts clearly and quickly using line drawings and sketches.
5. Visualise designs with component detail using line drawings and shading.
6. Use software such as illustrator and photoshop to enhance hand drawn sketches.
Learning outcomes
Recognise one point, two point and three point perspective.
Know techniques to support continuous improvement in sketching skills to improve quality, clarity, and fluency of sketches.
Know where to find online resources for further study and improvement of sketching techniques.
Know when use the most appropriate visualisation technique when communicating ideas, concepts and designs to different audiences at different stages of the design process.

Visualisation techniques for product design projects.
Syllabus
The module will be delivered through a series of drawing workshops to explain a variety of 2D sketching techniques for use in communicating ideas, concepts and three dimensional objects.
The syllabus will include: perspective rules, use of light and dark for shading, line drawing techniques to communicate form, selection ansd use of appropriate drawing styles for different audiences, use of appropriate levels of ambiguity and design definition for different stages of the design process, sketching for divergent and convergent thinking, visual illusions and visual perception, computational shape systems.
