Objectives
On completion of this module the student is expected to be able to:- demonstrate an understanding of business practices in a range of industry sectors;
- identify all potential user groups and stakeholders and be able to define their needs as input into a product definition process;
- understand the principles of Intellectual property law and understand its importance to product design;
- write a business plan to propose how a new product could be exploited;
- sufficiently familiar with the structure of contemporary CVs and letters of application in order to formulate a tailored CV and letter of application for a specified position;
- sufficiently familiar with the services and support offered from the University Careers Service;
- make an informed choice of career path, locate sources of adverts for chosen positions and specify the entry level criteria.
- recognize, evaluate and select transferable and specific skills and relative to specific role or position and present then to a non specialist audience/ potential employers;
- recognize their own specific & transferable skills which would be of value to an employer;
- select and compile project based work into a portfolio to demonstrate a range of skills;
- present visual and none visual work to demonstrate a range of skills an uninformed audience.

This module is complementary to PDES3110 (individual project) and elements of it provide industrial context and customer focus for product design. The range of industry sectors will be complementary to the projects offered in PDES3110.
