Module summary
The module will introduce students to the academic skills and strategies they will need to support their studies at undergraduate levels. Through a combination of interactive sessions and independent (assessed) online tasks the module will provide student with the opportunity to gain and practice skills in time management, using library resources, independent research and writing, and preparing for assessment.Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to: understand the skill requirements of undergraduate study; use the library and library catalogue confidently; develop a personal timetable of study; master academic referencing conventions for research; construct a bibliography; understand, explain and avoid plagiarism; understand the grade descriptors and how markers use them; make effective use of tutor feedback to improve performance.Skills outcomes
Using library resources and the library; writing skills; following academic conventions in referencing and bibliographies; avoiding plagiarism and creating independent work; understanding marking scales, grade descriptors and how they are applied; using feedback effectively.

Completing online tutorials and tasks left over from the teaching sessions.Opportunities for Formative Feedback
