Successful completion of Level 1 & 2 Medicine or Dentistry MChD or BChD or Successful completion of all pass for progression modules in Level 2 of BA Philosophy, Psychology & Scientific thought (and its International and Industrial variants)

Module summary

This module aims to provide in depth coverage of key concepts in developmental psychology, and will be taught by a team of experts in this field. Students will continue to develop their knowledge of this discipline with particular emphasis on the research expertise of the module team.

Objectives

The module aims to provide students with a broad knowledge of research in developmental psychology, developing the students' critical understanding of key theoretical and empirical work in these areas.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of classic and recent work in developmental psychology;
- show critical understanding of both cognitive and social development, and how environmental factors affect both of those
- describe and evaluate key models, frameworks and research methods in this area;
- reflect on the theoretical and practical implications of the issues covered.
-integrate information from across the different topics to show an holistic understanding of childhood development.

Sudents will be able to read and critically summarise a journal article.

Skills outcomes
Students will have the opportunity to consider how theory and research are integrated within the field of developmental psychology, and how theory and research are applied to real world contexts, demonstrating these through critical review of published literature.
