Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to:- develop an understanding of elementary mathematical theory;
- have experience in obtaining basic mathematical solutions, including unfamiliar problems;
- develop processing and interpretation of visual and written information;
- assimilate material from lectures and implement in assessed coursework;
- develop quantitative ability which will underpin future scientific endeavours;
- develop time management in performing assessed coursework.
Syllabus
The following topics are covered:
- algebra
- equations and formulae
- logarithms and exponentials
- trigonometry
- straight-line analysis
- sequences and series.
- solving coupled algebraic equations
- vectors
- differentiation
- introduction to integration.
