Objectives

- To understand the procedures used to interpret seismic reflection sections as structural and stratigraphic geological cross-sections.
- To acquire skills in completing seismic reflection interpretations on paper and at a workstation.
- To be made aware of possible interpretation pitfalls and time to depth conversion techniques.
- To acquire a practical understanding of geophysical survey techniques routinely applied to boreholes and how physical properties and pre fluid characteristics are estimated from them.

Syllabus

- Picking wavelets
- tying around loops, fault identification, halokinisis, reefs
- borehole to seismic ties, synthetic seismograms, depth conversion, 3D seismic interpretation, seismic attributes, seismic stratigraphy.
- use of Kingdom Suite (TM) for seismic interpretation, resistivity
- spontaneous potential (SP)
- porosity logs (sonic, whole-waveform, formation- density, neutron)
- natural gamma-ray logs
- determination of porosity and lithology
- image logs.
