Module summary
This module enables absolute beginner students to develop their language skills up to A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).Language Learning in this module is student-centred and task-based. The classroom is conceived as a social space for communication. Listening, reading, writing, speaking, interaction and mediation tasks will be set.Objectives
To develop their language skills and competence up to CEFRL A1 level/equivalent.Teaching is divided into a series of units, developing various important skills, such as the ability to work in a team, to a deadline, and the ability to assimilate and organize language material and present it in a given register, style and context.
Students should also develop an awareness of the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases with a specific communicative purpose
2. introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have
3. interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
Syllabus
The syllabus for this module typically includes the following elements:
• giving and asking for personal information, greetings and farewells, seeking for linguistic items clarification
• expressing intentions, speaking about interests and expressing the reasons why you do things
• describing places and countries, expressing existence, location and speaking about the weather
• identifying objects, expressing necessity, shopping, speaking about preferences
• speaking about appearance and character, expressing likes and dislikes, speaking about personal relationships
• speaking about daily life and expressing frequency
• asking for and giving information about food, restaurants and eating habits
• describing places where you live, what you like about a place, asking for and giving information about a places
• talking about past experiences, skills and abilities
