Pre-requisite qualifications
Normally a minimum of GCSE sciences and mathematics at grade A/B. At least one Science A level or equivalent experience.This module is not approved as a discovery module
Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to: demonstrate their competence at mathematical key skills considered essential pre-requisites for the successful completion of the BSc Sports Science and Exercise Science undergraduate degree programmes.Syllabus
Basic Skills:
1. Addition and multiplication (significant figures and decimal places)
2. Estimating and calculating
3. Decimals and fractions
4. Ratios and percentages
5. Variables (algebraic representation)
6. Algebraic simplification
7. Solving linear equations
8. Circles and angular measure
9. Triangles
10. Right angled triangles (Pythagoras and trigonometric ratios)
11. Indices and logarithms.
Additional Skills:
1. Vectors (to scalar product)
2. Superposition
3. Statistical measures (central tendency and dispersion)
4. Graphs (gradients and areas)
5. Probability.
