Module summary
This module will enable students to understand how colour is used in all stages of the textile workflow including design, communication, colorant selection, production and retail. It will equip students with knowledge and understanding of colour that will enable them to elucidate why certain colours are used, what the implications for manufacturing are, and what colours communicate to consumers. The module will approach colour from a multi-disciplinary perspective and will enable the students understand colour choices from the viewpoint of the designer, the technologist and the consumer.Objectives
This module will provide specialist knowledge and insightful understanding of colour communication and forecasting relationships for textile technology, fashion technology, and retailing. The module will equip students with the skills to apply colour theory in the textile design process from the perspective of the designer, the technologist and the consumer.Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Investigate the ontology of colour and methods by which it can be communicated.
2. Appraise the role of colour in the textile design process from the perspective of the designer, the technologist and the consumer.
3. Evaluate the role of colour communication in the manufacturing-retail supply line for consumer textiles using appropriate critical frameworks.
4. Investigate historical, contemporary and emerging practices of colour forecasting.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
5. Select, use, troubleshoot and adapt colour measurement instruments to objective measure textile colour
6. Generate ideas and demonstrate originality and imaginative thinking for colour design

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Each student will receive feedback on a coursework proposal mid way through the project. Student will use the one practical sessions to carry out testing either their ideas or their products, Student will have chance to ask questions on their coursework assignment after each lecture and in seminar.Methods of assessment
