Objectives
On completion of this module, students will be:- aware of the spectrum of child abuse and its antecedents;
- more confident in the diagnosis and management of the abused child.
Syllabus
This module looks at what we understand by the term 'child abuse', how to take an appropriate history and assess physical signs, how to give a medical opinion and work in a multi-agency setting.
It aims to familiarise students with the legal system relevant to child protection, the options for and problems of care outside the home, and the referral services for and current philosophy on the treatment of abused children.
