Objectives
On completion of this module, students will have increased their understanding of:- the common chronic health conditions of childhood;
- the impact of chronic illness and death on the child and his/her family;
- palliative care and end of life issues.
Syllabus
This module concentrates on the medical management of common chronic conditions. Psychological issues for the child and family are explored and school policies towards these children discussed.
We consider the child’s developmental understanding of death and illness, the problems of a child with chronic or terminal illness and the challenge of talking to children about these issues.
