Module summary

Do you want to improve your employability? Increase your awareness of your own skills/interests and personal characteristics so that you can impress a future employer? This module will prepare you to compete in the graduate job market, whether you are applying for work placements or graduate jobs.This is a practical and highly participative module with employer involvement run by the University's Professional Career Consultants which requires attendance at all sessions.Assessments are continual, relevant and useful with no exams. To do this module you don't need any previous experience or special skills. Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to:

- understand effective career decision making;
- have an understanding of the graduate marketplace;
- prepare to engage with the work place (i.e. work placements, applications, interviews etc);
- identify what is important to them in making a career decision;
- become aware of the resources, support & opportunities available to complete this;
- be able to use a range of personal development planning techniques; self auditing and self reflection, decision making and action planning, monitoring progress, gathering and responding to feedback, critical review and reflection.

Private study

78 hours - include reading time; lecture research time; group work research and preparation for skills challenge; individual research analysis in preparation for individual assignments.
100 hours - occupational research including identifying sources; networking/liaising with employers; attending careers events; undertaking psychometric testing etc.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will be encouraged to make full use of the Careers Centre facilities to aid their progress during the course of the module. Any further issues would be addressed during the interactive workshop sessions
