Objectives

Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students will be able to;
- Apply and develop knowledge and skills from previous levels;
- Discuss the contribution of a range of disciplines to motor development;
- Work independently to design and produce a piece of research based work in the area of motor development;
- Describe and discuss current issues in development;
- Discuss the importance of knowledge of the motor development to exercise, performance and rehabilitation.

- Spontaneous and voluntary movements
- Dynamical and ecological perspectives on development
- Sensory perceptual development
- Assessment of development
- Factors influencing development
- Manual development
- Children with movement difficulties.

Private study

Background reading, seminar preparations and working on coursework:
- 2 hours per lecture: 22 hours
- 2 hours per practical: 8 hours
- Students coursework: 30 hours
- Exam preparation: 19 hours.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students' progress will be monitored by completion of a written assignment and informal monitoring during practicals and tutorial.

- A formative assessment will take place in week 4 to monitor progress.
- Additional tutorials will be available those students wanting extra assistance.

- 1 x 2 hour written examination. Essay questions 50%.
