Objectives

Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students will be able to;
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of movement analysis;
- Produce a piece of research based work in the area of movement analysis;
- Develop an inverse dynamics, multi-segment dynamic human motion in two dimensions;
- Demonstrate an understanding of kinematic measuring techniques in 2 and 3 dimensions and their alternatives.


Syllabus

- Introduction to the course.
- Kinematic measuring techniques
- Kinetic measuring techniques and their alternatives
- Accuracy and precision, scaling and data smoothing in motion analysis
- Inverse dynamics, multi-segment model of static, quasi-static and dynamic human motion in two dimensions
- Muscle activity measuring techniques
- Data collection and problem solving in movement studies
- Notational analysis of movement.

- Background reading, seminar preparations and working on coursework

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

- Students' progress will be monitored by completion of a written assignment and informal monitoring during practicals and tutorial.
- A formative assessment will take place in week 6 to monitor progress.
- Additional tutorials will be available to those students wanting extra assistance.
