Module summary
The module aims to enable the practitioner to examine and develop their practice in relation to local and profession specific standards of diagnostic imaging.Objectives
The principal aim of this module is to provide a structure to enable student to bring together self-knowledge, expertise at work and formal knowledge, in order to foster and develop the highest standards of professional health care and imaging practice for individuals, families and/or communities.Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Critically appraise current literature/research related to aspects of professional Diagnostic Imaging practice and related topics, incorporating evidence based practice and life-long learning
- Demonstrate e a comprehensive understanding of relevant ethical and legal issues related to Diagnostic Imaging
- Be fully conversant with the ethos of patient centred healthcare and the limitations/compromises associated with autonomy and decision-making in Diagnostic Imaging practice
- Demonstrate in-depth specialist knowledge of complex communication with other healthcare professional clients, patients, and carers and the importance of cultivating good working relationships
- Critically evaluate and analyse the impact of current international, national and local issues/guidelines on your clinical practice and demonstrate a working knowledge of the professional and organisational principles that underpin your diagnostic imaging practice
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the principles of image interpretation and/or report writing
Skills outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to:
- critically appraise the information and communication needs of healthcare professionals and healthcare service users & carers;
- synthesise complex information and present it in a clear, concise and accessible manner in a variety of professional contexts;
- critically examine the changing role of the practitioner brought about by practice development in diagnostic imaging

Private study to include: e-learning; literature searches, seminar and assessment preparation, independent supporting investigation & critical evaluation of patient-based case report for summative assessment.Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Peer and tutor feedback also given in the debate, assessment preparation seminars/quizzes. Students will submit a 200 word plan of their proposed assignment topic with tutor feedback.Methods of assessment

Students will be required to submit a 3000 word written assignments on a topic relating to professional issues in their clinical practice. Progress is monitored by: Peer and tutor feedback also given in the debate, assessment preparation seminars/quizzes.
