Objectives

This module aims to introduce students to the key elements of the UK legal system as it affects businesses and consumers. The module explores how legislation and case law are used to analyse and determine legal disputes.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- describe the way the legal system is organized and identify key legal concepts
- explain negligence, contract and company law at an introductory level
- distinguish and interpret legislation and case law

Skills outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:

- Identify the law relevant to a situation, apply that law and draw conclusions about the implications for management.

Transferable:
- demonstrate problem solving skills
- communicate in writing


Syllabus

Includes coverage of the key elements of the legal system, the law of negligence, the law of contract, the law of agency and the law relating to business organisations such as sole traders, partnerships, and companies.
