Module summary

This module offers a blended theoretical & practical experience in setting-up and running a business. Its interactive sessions allow students to delve into the issues of creativity, idea generation, opportunity recognition and feasibility analysis, thus, enabling them to understand how to set the foundations of an entrepreneurial business model. Through various activities, students work towards exploring business opportunities, which allows them to learn about businesses, make decisions about various aspects related to those businesses, and be entrepreneurial.

Objectives

This module aims to provide students with the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship and set foundations of entrepreneurial business models both independently and through various activities using, for example, videos, podcasts, reading and other online materials. Within workshops students will be provided with the opportunity to take what they have learnt online and put this into practice, during innovative and collaborative activities.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
1. Recognise and apply basic general small business management skills in the areas of idea generation, opportunity exploitation, competitive positioning and business modelling.
2. Identify and apply standard management practices
3. Recognise the underlying principles of how enterprises are created and run

Syllabus

Indicative content:

- Understanding entrepreneurship and enterprise creation
- Employing creative tools to generate ideas and identify opportunities
- Assessing the feasibility of opportunities, including industry, market, product and entrepreneur feasibility
- Setting foundations of an entrepreneurial business model and pitching it to potential investors

Students will will engage in different activities that will support them in understanding how new ventures are formed and developed.
