Module summary

This module will assist individual students to maximise their potential during their transition into a professional career or further academic study by preparing them for the application, interview and selection process.The content of this module focuses on careers in the Creative Industries, such as Product Design, however some of the content is generic for any given career path.

Objectives

The module aims to develop and enhance the employability of students by providing them with structured support for managing their personal development and career planning. The module aims to support individual students in identifying and developing their range of transferable skills, which are essential for academic and professional success.

The module objectives are:
- To inform students of the opportunities before them when they leave university
- To introduce and engage students with the facilities and support available within the Careers Centre
- To provide guidance to support students in their choice of future career path
- To present a snapshot of what happens in the professional practice of design
- To provide guidance in regard to the range of skills employers are looking for
- To support students to demonstrate a range of transferrable and subject-specific skills through their CV and portfolio

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students should be better able to:
1. Identify and set personal objectives for academic and career development
2. Reflect on their learning and the development of their professional and employability skills
3. Recognise and evaluate the transferable and subject-specific skills relevant to a specific role or position.
4. Produce a professional CV and letter of application for a specified position.
5. Practice and develop their ability to perform successfully in interviews.
6. Produce a professional portfolio of project-based work to demonstrate a range of skills for a specific role.
7. Present visual and non-visual work to demonstrate a range of skills to both specialist and lay audiences.
