Pre-requisite qualifications

Successful completion of Year 2 of:
BSc Psychology or MPsyc, BSc Advanced Psychology (and its International and Industrial variants)

Objectives

This module aims to provide in depth coverage of empirical, conceptual and theoretical issues relating to 'Health Psychology'. The module will be taught by an expert in the subject.
Students will continue to develop their knowledge in this area of the discipline with particular emphasis on relevant research.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students will be able to critically discuss psychological aspects of health within a biopsychosocial paradigm and will be able to critically evaluate recent empirical evidence that shows the extent to which psychological constructs and individual differences can explain broad variations in health and illness, and can be used in the promotion and maintenance of health.

Skills outcomes
- Knowledge of health psychology theories and models that can be applied to real-world health issues.
- Literature reviewing and presentation skills

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will be asked to present either:
1) a mini review of empirical literature, or
2) to develop a health promotion poster based upon health psychological theory in week 5, as part of a peer group teaching exercise.

The peer group teaching exercise must be passed for students to progress.
