Module summaryThe module re-appraises supply chain logistics using the latest thinking and endeavours to offer possibilities to reduce the environmental impact.
ObjectivesThe module is designed to help students who aspire to work in planning, policymaking and consultancy roles in which they will need up-to-date knowledge of best practice in reducing the environmental problems associated with freight and logistics activities.
Students will have a good understanding of how supply chains currently work, and how they might be improved for the benefit of the environment and society, now and in the future.
The module will consider relevant aspects of logistics and supply chain management, including: vehicle utilisation; vehicle routing; fuel efficiency and use of alternative fuels; moving to greener modes; reverse logistics ('returns' and waste management); the 'food miles' debate, reducing the environmental impact of warehousing; greener city logistics; the role of e-logistics; methods of carbon auditing; the role of the government in green logistics.
