Module summary

This module will give the student the opportunity to apply learning to a work-based situation. It will allow them to investigate, in depth, an imaging modality or specialist area of interest of their choice. This work-based learning module allows the student to design, negotiate and manage their own study relevant to their work experience, or to explore a new area of appropriate practice. Five clinical days are arranged by the student in their chosen clinical imaging area.The module will adopt a patient case study approach whereby they can investigate the rationale for the use of a particular imaging modality / specialist imaging area in the course of a patient’s clinical management. Relevant literature will be explored to critically discuss the case study.Negotiated learning contracts will set out achievable aims and are student-led under the guidance of the module manager.

- Critically explore the rationale for specific imaging modalities / specialist imaging areas for a selected case study
- Evaluate how the imaging investigation is influenced by, and influences the patient management pathway
- Critically appraise the procedure and its contribution to the patient management pathway
- Evaluate the outcome of the procedure
• Draw evidenced-based conclusions using current research and literature
