Module summary

Elementary 10 credits Korean is for students who have completed a beginners module and/or have spent some time in Korea and are keen to develop their language skills but only have 10 credits available. The focus is on achieving a reasonable level of communication and accuracy in speaking, listening, reading and writing and a deeper understanding of Korean culture. You will develop your speaking skills in particular.

Objectives

To consolidate knowledge of Korean at beginners level and develop skills and competence towards CEFR A2 level/equivalent. On completion of the module students should be able to identify the main language points in familiar contexts and hold conversations in Korean on the topics covered. They should feel confident in using their Korean and in accessing a variety of authentic resources. Students should also develop a deeper awareness of Korean culture in relation to the topics covered by the module.

Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students should be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of commonly used instructions, commands and expressions in the topics covered
- read short texts in Korean
- extract accurately the key information from audio and/or video material
- handle short conversations in a familiar context
- understand, and make themselves understood by, a sympathetic native speaker in specific contexts
- demonstrate awareness of cultural and linguistic differences between the use of Korean and English
- produce short pieces of independent writing using the Korean script
- demonstrate their knowledge of key areas of grammar..
